Great Image for Just Two Weeks - A Repaired TV Review

by Marcelo D. Fonseca 2009-10-09, 19 people found this review helpful
I bought the Brazilian version of this TV set, which has some minor technical differences. Unfortunately, mine was a defective unit. It worked for just two weeks and then it started showing some black spots on the screen. In the beginning there were just a few dead pixels. Then it started growing gradually into black lines and even black circles. If at least the Brazilian law were like in US, but no, here we have just seven days to return it to store. After that, we have to take it to repair. Now I have a really expensive "repaired" TV set (here it is US$2000). And who knows how long it will last...

UPDATE written on October 21, 2009:

After some Google search I found out that this LED LCD Panel used by Samsung is in fact made by AU Optronics Corp. (AUO). So, I think the responsibility for the fail mentioned above can be shared between both Companies.

I believe it is important to divulge such problem. It's my contribution to alert people and to force the manufactures to improve their process.

But, despite of that issue, now that I've been using this TV for a month, I feel more comfortable to share my opinion about it.

Pros: High contrast ratio due to LED backlighting. It deliveries you deep black, clear white and vivid colors. It also consumes less power than a regular CCFL backlighting TV. Other advantages: it's really slim (it looks like a picture frame on the wall) and environment-friendly on disposal. Besides, comparing it to other options on the market, I would say it has a stylish design.

Cons: The sound is not as good as I would expect for. I definitely prefer TVs with front speakers, but this issue can be minimized connecting it to a receiver. The remote control in my opinion is too big and ugly. Due to its glossy finish, it's impossible to keep it clean. You'll see. Unless you use a glove, you'll let your fingerprints on it. But now, the worst thing for me: I've lost confidence in this brand. It is important to mention here that this is my second Samsung TV. The first one had to be returned twice to the store. Just the third one was working properly. So, I've tried out four TVs and three had some kind of problem, which means 75% of fail.

If I had the opportunity to come back in time, I'd choose something else. I'd probably buy another Sony. By the way, I also have a ten-year-old Wega and other eight-month-old Bravia, and I'm really happy with them.

Great TV, great service from Amazon

by M. Bekishev 2009-12-12, 6 people found this review helpful
I have been watching my UN32B6000 for a week now. Here is my short summary:
1. Great TV, picture quality is incredible, I really enjoy it (I have Dish HD).
2. Decent sound, I do not understand why other reviewers have complained about it.
3. Viewing angel is typical for Samsung TVs, slightly better than on my previous LCD.
Now, the main question many people may ask, is it worth it to spend extra $200-$300 to buy LED vs. LCD? I have another 32' Samsung 640, 1080P, 120hz., which I bought four months ago. 640 series was made for Best Buy and is analog of 650 series that you could buy on Amazon. I found that LED edges LCD on picture quality, just a little bit. There is no difference in sound quality. If you like a new innovating design, great picture quality, improved power efficiency and need a thin, lighter TV, you should buy LED. If you would like to save money, you will be fine by buying comparable LCD.

We bought this LED TV 1 month ago over the Sharp 32" LED and what a mistake that was. We liked the slim style but the picture quality on this LED vs. the Sharp we have is not even close. In addition, the layout of the ports and connections are such that with the slim design I have to take the TV off the wall to add/remove my USB devices.

To make matters worse, the screen blew within the first month and trying to deal with Samsung support was a nightmare. I used the web chat to open the call and that took more than 30 minutes. Then I had to follow up and call them to see the status. They could not tell me the details of their own warranty (pick-up, in-home, delivery) and I had to call a 3rd party service to get the info. This unit has "pick-up" service but that means they send you a UPS label and you have to box and ship. If you want UPS actually pick up, you have to pay the charge or take it to UPS. They say it will be up to 2 weeks for the repair.

I know I will sell this once it comes back from repair and buy another Sharp. It may not be 1.5 inches thick but it's got a superior display, $400 less and frankly, the super slim does not look that much different on the wall.

Perfect for RV Mounting in Narrow Clearance by Slide-Out

by OPsDad 2009-10-30, 20 people found this review helpful
I purchased this TV because it is so thin. I have a 2006 Triple-Slide 5th Wheel, and it had a cabinet for an old CRT-style TV. Putting the Sammsung ("Sammy") on the stand in that cabinet wasted a huge amount of space. So I made a door for the front of the cabinet from 3/4 inch birch plywood, and stained it to match the color of the cabinet. I used a flat screen mount screwed to this door, and hung the Sammy on that. About 2 inches of clearance for the slide out, and about 15 cubic feet of storage space is recovered. And, it looks VERY sanitary. The door opens with just a perfect amount of clearance, and we have all of our Blue-Rays and DVDs in there, along with books and other stuff. Makes the RV "better than new" in several ways.

Now, about the TV.

I got done just in time for Game 2 of the world series. Stunning. Unlike our home LCD, this monitor has 120 hz. It's fast. You can SEE the baseball heading for home plate CLEARLY. Not a blur. The unit is beautiful, the touch of color is classy. There is a nice little light that would light up the stand if we were using the stand, and it shines right onto our Satellite STB perfectly as we have it mounted. Picture quality is the best I've ever seen in a 32 inch TV. We also use this as a monitor for a MacbookPro in our RV. We can sit or lie on the couch with wireless keyboard and Mouse, and see fine... I'm typing this that way right now!

Set up was a breeze. The only catch was that my satellite box doesn't give the TV a time feed, had to set date/time manually. No big deal. I find the location of the inputs to be just fine, and there are lots of them. Cable management is included with the TV, a nice plus. One negative, and a small one: instead of a standard "computer" style power cord, it has a fixed cord. The cord is a 90 degree plug style cord, and it doesn't go thru the hole in my cabinet, so I have to enlarge the hole to get it thru.

So far, this is the best TV I have ever owned, and I have 3 other flat screen TVs, another Samsung, and 2 Sony Bravias. All are nice, but this LCD is just so pretty, picture wise and design of the unit. If it has no issues, then I'm a Sammy guy all the way, and I have really been happy with my Sonys. If there are any issues, I'll be sure and update.

I oredered this on Amazon thru vendor "Vanns". It arrived days early, via freight, and the driver carried it right in to the RV for me. 1100 plus was a lot to pay, and I think it was worth it.

Great Product

This tv fits particular needs in terms of size and expectations. It fits a cabinet in my bedroom. It will serve my tv tech needs for years. The downside of the latter capability is dealing with options, capabilities and questions I often don't know how to answer. To minimize frustrations, get help setting it up (including quick start).

You can't go wroing with Samsung

by R. Halpert 2009-11-20, 3 people found this review helpful
I have been a Samsung customer for quite some time now. I have never had a problem with any Samsung product and this 32" LED TV is no different. The picture this TV displays is noticeably crisper, clearer and almost 3D like compared to the Samsung LCD TVs we have. I both a 19" LCD in the kitchen and 46" LCD in the living room. I would definitely reccomend this TV if you are in the market for a LED TV.

Great experience!

Kudos to Amazon on shipping. I ordered this TV at midnight on Friday and it was delivered on Monday by UPS. I certainly can't ask for any better service than that.

The TV is great! Setup was a breeze and it synched right up with my cable box. The picture is awesome and the sound is really good for internal speakers. I have it set up with the default settings for now but am looking forward to playing with the tools and tweaks when I have some time. We are currently running on the antenna connection from the cable box because the new HD cable box won't be here until Saturday. Since the picture is so good hooked up this way which is the worst quality signal, I can't wait to see what it looks like when I use an HDMI cable connection which is the best quality signal.

If you want LED technology, I definitely recommend this Samsung model. It is still a little pricey but the value is there. I will try to update the review when I get the HD Cable box and Blueray player installed next weekend.

Update - Comcast installed the HD cable box using an HDMI connection and the picture is awesome - big improvement over the antenna connection. Now we have the dilemna of actually not watching some TV shows we used to because they are not in HD. Interesting sidepoint - my cable bill actually decreased by $30 when I added 2 HD-DVR set-top boxes and dropped the premium channels I had (we hardly ever watched them) - a very pleasant surprise. Love this TV and will be getting a 46" model for the family room to replace my older 36" Sony Trinitron HDTV (there is no comparison in picture quality)that weighs about 200 pounds - hoping for an end of year deal.

Great picture, sound is wanting, light is annoying

by Paul A. Dietrich 2009-11-24, 10 people found this review helpful
Pros:
This television has an excellent picture with outstanding clarity and startling range of colors. Very low wattage is appealing - we run it on solar power.

Cons:
Sound could be much better - the speakers face the wall, which impedes clarity. To me, the sound is no different with the surround sound ON or OFF. The white light under the set is an annoyance which fortunately can be turned off.

Wow

I was expecting a great picture and it exceeded my expectations and thin and lite...
I needed a 32" because or space limitations and there are very few 1080p 32" sets.....The led tech looks like the wave of the future.......even makes non hd look great

Great picture, futuristic exterior but can't play media off PC

by ilia Brouk 2009-10-04, 19 people found this review helpful
PROS:
I had it only for a few days. Very satisfied with quality of a picture and its elegant exterior design. Playing mpeg/avi movies off 1TB usb hard disk and usb flash card, using built-in movie player software, works great. Intuitive menu navigation.

CONS:
Internet services are very limited, only allows to view weather, news, stocks but doesn't allow to watch movies off Netflix, Youtube, etc.
'PC share manager' software allowing to play media directly off PC through network is NOT available for this model, this is the reason for deducting 1 star and the only disappointment about this TV since this feature is very imortant to me.
